Rebuilding Chong Xiu Temple for a Global Future | Rooting Our Heritage in the Cultural Center

Bodhisattva’s Guidance · A Living Cultural Heritage

Yunlin was the founding base of the Fa-Yi lineage and the first Chong-De Tao Community. It bears witness to the sacrifices of our Senior Elders and the paths they travelled in Tao cultivation and service. As time brought change, Bodhisattva Bu Xiu Xi gave this instruction in 2018: “Find a place in Yunlin to build a cultural center, so that the Grand Senior Elder’s lifelong dedication may be passed on.” In 2022, she further instructed: “Rebuild Chong Xiu Temple on its original site alongside the cultural center, demonstrating the unity of the Yunlin Tao Community.” Following this guidance, the community came together in devotion and service, supported by the spiritual realm.

Raising Funds to Build Our Cultural Center
Master Liu led by example, making traditional Chinese toon sauce to raise funds for the cultural center. Each batch sold out immediately. Already in his eighties, his wholehearted participation deeply moved the Tao Juniors. Everyone contributed what they could, helping with production, fundraising and financial support. The account also describes support from departed community members: Immortal Qilin appeared in a dream to his son, a businessman in Shenzhen, asking him to contribute NT$150,000—the estimated construction cost per ping. Immortal Yingxiong likewise asked his son to help. Many descendants and Tao Juniors subsequently donated in their own names and those of their ancestors.

Cultivating Merits and Virtues · Resolving Karmic Debts
The source recounts the story of Mr. Chen, a Tao member at Cishan Temple. Diagnosed with stage-four oral cancer at sixty, he lived until around eighty; his family attributed those additional years to the grace of Heaven and the Masters. Before his diagnosis, he had purchased a policy payable after twenty years. Grateful that he lived to its maturity, his family donated part of the proceeds to the cultural center in his memory. Initially, the donation receipt was issued in the company’s name for tax purposes. According to the family’s account, he then appeared in his wife’s dream to say he had not received the merits. She changed the receipt to his name. After the dedication of merits, he was said to have appeared in dreams to his company manager and niece, telling them he was leaving to cultivate spiritually. The account presents this as an encouragement to honour ancestors through good deeds and to support the two building projects together.

Chong Xiu Temple: Rebuilding on Our Original Site, Connecting with the World

At a 2018 meeting with Chong-De’s leadership at Guanghui, Bodhisattva Bu Xiu Xi instructed: “An established Tao Community must remain vibrant. Plan carefully and connect with society. Develop not only the classics classes but also the College Section. Find a place in Yunlin for a cultural center to pass on the Grand Senior Elder’s lifelong dedication. You have already built many large temples; now establish deep cultural roots and reach outward.” In 2022, at a Yunlin Masters’ class, she called for Chong Xiu Temple and the cultural center to be built together, expressing the community’s unity and international outlook. The source also recounts departed members asking relatives to donate in their memory, and Tao Seniors dedicating merits to ancestors. Let us continue Tao cultivation and service, fulfil our vows and complete these two projects, accumulating merits for ourselves and our ancestors.
